Why Service Design specifically?

As we deliver on this mandate, you will be an expert in the practical and creative application of design thinking tools and methodologies, with the goal of improving or developing new products, processes, experiences or services. You bring people together to surface deep stakeholder needs and requirement and deliver exceptional end to end experiences as a result.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting or lead design facilitation sessions of cross-functional teams to capture, evaluate, and merge divergent ideas to create a better product, process, experience or service.
  • Synthesizing research findings to distill member insights into actionable concepts that can be evaluated and prioritized against business objectives and member needs.
  • Fostering alignment and shared understanding through the creation and rapid iteration of service blueprints, prototypes, wireframes, user flows, and other design artifacts.
  • Conceiving and articulating entirely new value propositions that sync with member challenges and business objectives.
  • Championing the growth and adoption of a service design mindset within OMERS.

To succeed in this role, you have:

  • A university/college degree with a focus in design, strategic foresight and innovation, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience leading and working within cross-functioning and agile teams, working alongside and collaborating with; subject matter experts, stakeholders, developers, and product managers.
  • A proven track record of successfully (re)designing large and complex multi-channel services that meet the needs of users, alleviate pain points and reduce operational costs.
  • Confidence in facilitating workshops and managing stakeholders at different levels.
  • Expertise in creating visual communication on deliverables such as presentations, journey maps, storyboards, service blueprints, etc.
  • A thorough grasp of human-centred design and innovation frameworks, methodologies, tools and processes across all areas including insight, commercials, and design.
  • A critical thinking and entrepreneurial mindset (start-up thinking, problem solver, forward thinking, comfortable dealing with ambiguity).
