Ernst & Young

Ernst & Young

The opportunity

In New Zealand the service and experience design team brings together talents in social research, design thinking, community development, agile practice, and traditional business consulting.

We apply design methods to strategy, service innovation, and business transformation (meaning new operating models that are led by a vision of the customer or citizen experience).

Our work incorporates all sectors and has a growing presence in government services, where we intend to grow capacity for co-design including with Māori as Te Tiriti partners.

We have a strong relationship with our EY sister firm, EY Tahi.  EY Tahi supports Māori organisations, government and businesses to accelerate success for Māori people.

We work on some dedicated design projects (e.g. value proposition design for new products or services) and often in integrated teams as part of business transformations.

Your key responsibilities

  • Conducting our design thinking process, including applying it to co-design with Māori
  • Acting as a lead facilitator both running sessions and coaching others in our team and across the business to develop their skills (methods, techniques, planning, empathy, creativity, delivery)
  • Challenging us and our clients to always focus on the problem and put the customer first – thinking from the outside in
  • Taking responsibility for the end to end outcome of a project or piece of work including its form and quality
  • Keeping up to date with the latest thinking, practices, techniques and developments in your space – and helping us raise the bar when it comes to our outputs and our craft
Skills and attributes for success
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit with a real passion for service, strategic, or social design
  • Have good proven design experience with well rounded consulting skills
  • The ability to lead and nurture small design teams on integrated projects
  • Know how to deliver in an agile environment
  • A good listener – aware of the world, with a natural curiosity and empathy
  • Known for sharing  your experience effectively to assist agreement on what good practice means in different situations, while also able to take instruction where necessary
Ideally you’ll also have
  • A keen interest in exploring kaupapa Māori approaches to design
  • Confidence navigating techniques in community engagements

Note that on all projects you will have the support of a design director who is ultimately responsible for the pipeline of work, wider methodology and practice, and design quality assurance and client satisfaction in regard to each design assignment.
