Lead Service Designer

Department for International Trade

Department for International Trade

We’re looking for Lead Service Designers to help us transform the department’s end-to-end services into world class products and services for UK businesses and international investors looking to export from the UK or invest into it.

As a Lead Service Designer, you will…

Help your colleagues across the department understand their users, make sense of their own processes and identify where things are failing in existing services. You will also look for opportunities to create new services and processes. You’ll work alongside and with user centred multidisciplinary teams including researchers, developers, business analysts, and interaction designers and will bring a wide view of the landscape as well as be the voice of the user and business. You’ll collaborate with policy teams, trade advisors, senior managers,  product managers and service owners to help understand and communicate the complexities of our services.

You will create visions, strategies and roadmaps to help guide teams and stakeholders while documenting holistic user journeys to communicate and help make/understand key decisions. We’re looking for someone who will be able to analyse existing services to understand pain and failure points, as well as actively promote good design rationale with the team and stakeholders to ensure quality outcomes.

To be effective in this position, you will need to understand the needs of both users and stakeholders and be able to communicate this in an engaging way whether this is by creating prototypes to test an idea, running workshops and co-design sessions with colleagues, or creating service patterns that can be used across our services to ensure consistency and scalability.

We’re looking to develop leaders to become service design standards bearers who will promote the needs of the user and what efficient, effective services look like across the department.
