Principal Service/Strategic Designer

In this role, you will be responsible for evangelizing design being applied at a strategic level. You will work closely with our strategy, product, technology and customer teams to ensure we are promoting ‘Best Practice’ and innovative design approaches to ensure design direction is in place to support the roadmaps and strategy of teams.
You’ll help to define the strategic design direction, working in partnership with design, and strategy leaders. You’ll ensure strategies are well defined and communicated in a way that provides clear direction to other designers and  teams.
You’ll be responsible for framing up medium to long-term, high-level strategies and design evolutions across strategic programmes and initiatives.  Your impact will be a force multiplier for teams, amplifying their efforts so that they in turn can solve Xero customers’ problems more effectively.

You will have the opportunity to

    • Champion and drive holistic design principles and practices, including exploring new critical thinking approaches to solve complex customer problems
    • Define a clear design vision that aligns to the broader direction and contribute to the product or corporate strategy of your initiative, a portfolio or product area
    • Collaborate with other Product  and service designers  to ensure design is working towards a seamless end to end customer experience
    • Along with designers in your team, produce and share prototypes, concepts  showing how a user will experience your solution – the service and/or product
    • Ensure strategies are set up to scale and evolve solutions to critical customer problems across multiple teams and areas of the business, looking at customer and staff experiences
    • Work with our corporate strategy teams to build the customer experience lens and design principles for our business and product strategies

In order to be successful in this role, you will have

    • Experience leading other designers and strategists working on complex software and services
    • Experience building and iterating on a product/service based on usage patterns, user feedback and an evolving strategic landscape
    • A portfolio that demonstrates high-quality design outcomes, contributing to user experience and business value
    • Track record of innovating and delivering design experiences at scale
    • Strong storytelling and visual communication skills
