What you’ll do

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) are looking for two Service Designers to join the FCDO Labs team. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of driving how technology will transform how the Foreign and Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) operates.

The two service designers are joining at a critical moment for the team and be involved in department wide transformation projects.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a range of designer skills and be given the opportunity to work autonomously and create something impactful for the FCDO as it continues the journey to digitise and innovate.

The Service Designer will:

  • Use agile methodologies to lead projects as part of the FCDO Labs team in the UK and work closely with the overseas Labs team based in Singapore
  • Report into the Head of Labs to ensure delivery of impactful projects and innovative solutions
  • Undertake a range of design activities, including user-research, problem analysis, constraints mapping, content creation, solution design and prototyping in order to design the end-to-end journey of a service
  • Build relationships with stakeholders throughout the department that can be used to gain the insights we need to deliver impactful projects
  • Contribute to the development of the UK Labs team, building a sense of community and promoting the team’s work and human-centred design across the FCDO

Who you’ll be

We’re looking for problem solvers with a passion for human-centred design. You must be naturally curious and always seek to get to the root causes of the problem and to challenge the status quo.

To be considered for the role, you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

  • Demonstrable experience of designing services and working to agile principles.
  • The ability to suggest solutions to help solve a problem, and experience with prototyping different solutions.
  • Ability to identify user needs via direct engagement, and / or analysis of quantitative and qualitative research outputs
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to quickly understand the work of others and communicate across a range of audiences.
