Job description

The main responsibilities of the post are:

– Plan and design high-quality digital services, based on user needs and sets of related stories in accordance with CCS design standards.
– Collaborate with other disciplines such as architecture and security to understand what needs to be built conducting quality assurance, peer review/critiques, fact checking and accessible design reviews as required.
– Identify opportunities to improve system robustness, resilience and stability helping team members identify ways to improve services and user journeys by simplifying complex experiences and improving content within interactive services.
– Coach and mentor junior designers and effectively oversee and manage the work of interim agency designers and external delivery partners as appropriate.
– Comply with agreed security standards and specifications to design, create, test and document new or amended software by following and applying secure software development principles and practices.
– Maintain and support products according to CCS and Government Digital Services standards developing collaborative relationships with subject matter experts, programme owners and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Essential Criteria (to be assessed on application):
– Proven experience designing digital and non-digital content and services which are accessible, usable, and based on user needs (including designing to support those with assisted digital and accessibility issues).
– Familiarity and knowledge of GOV.UK design patterns, style guidance, plain English standards and/or the GDS service manual.
– Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams within a collaborative agile environment.
– Proven stakeholder manager, communicator and relationship manager experienced building and developing understanding and support of user-centred design.
– Experience at organisational and decision-making skills whilst maintaining effective performance in complex and challenging circumstances.
