Service Designer
Shelter UK
About the team
Our Digital team is responsible for all of Shelter Scotland’s digital output, including producing content for Get Advice, which provides help and advice to over 900,000 people in Scotland each year. Put simply, we start with user needs to create digital products and services that help people to solve their housing problems. Join us, and you’ll be at the heart of a team that includes a Content design team, an Editor, a Developer and a UX designer. You’ll also work alongside other Planners, Developers, UX and Service Design Practitioners within the wider Digital Team. Together, you’ll make a real difference in tackling the housing emergency.
About the role
Right now, we’re busy working with users of our online advice services and people across the organisation to make our service language simpler, clearer and designed around the people who are in housing need. To do that effectively we need someone like you to work as part of a cross-functional product team to create and improve services over our many different channels. One day you might be mapping existing holistic user journeys across various touchpoints and channels, the next conducting qualitative research with users or running an ideation workshop with subject matter experts. We’ll also rely on you to analyse quantitative data, validate concepts to create new offerings or collaborate with your team all the way from prototyping to implementation. And, when it comes to acting as a champion for human-centred design on end-to-end services across the wider organisation, again, we’ll count on you.
About you
You’ll be working both independently and with other service designers, UX designers and user researchers to deliver tangible and measurable outcomes for our users. Accordingly, as well as a relevant track record that includes experience in carrying out theoretical, quantitative and qualitative research and communicating findings, you’ll also need to be used to prototyping analogue services and digital products. Proficiency using modern design and the ability to learn new tools quickly will also be essential.
