As Senior Service Designer, you will ensure the principles of end to end and user-centred design are central to the creation of our new digital function. You will be an experienced designer who works with minimal support and can influence and mentor others.

At this level, you:

– Will work with service managers and programme directors to develop design concepts
– Will help set direction and embed good practice within teams
– Will make important decisions based on research and understand how this research impacts others

Job description

Some of your responsibilities will include:

– Leading scoping activities: You can scope activities, generate ideas, suggest appropriate methodologies and timelines when shaping a project.
– Facilitating co-design sessions: Experience and confidence designing and facilitating workshops on and offline.
– Matching user need with policy intent: Understanding user needs, identifying where policy intent might not be meeting those areas and propose designs for how to do so.
– Research stimulus: Creating and rapidly iterating stimulus for design research and supporting the team with visualisation of potential policy interventions as part of the recommendations from the team.
– Rapidly synthesise: You can quickly gather data and support the team to prioritise insights from both primary and secondary research. Working closely with user researchers to define and communicate people’s needs.
– Visualising information: Potentially optimising current experiences, proposing policy interventions and/or mapping the service experiences of users identifying pain points, opportunities and discussing how they might be delivered.

Essential Requirements:

– Experience making complex information simple, communicating effectively across organisational, technical and political boundaries (communicating and influencing).
– Experience understanding and capturing the overall perspective, considering policies, business issues, events, activities, and an understanding of their wider implications and long-term impact.
– Experience putting users first, and capturing and translating user needs into actionable recommendations and concepts.
– Experience defining the minimum concept and key insights needed for drawing conclusions and prioritisation.
– Experience managing competing priorities, maintaining the direction and cadence of the team to ensure successful delivery of the teams’ work.
– Experience of changing and/or improving processes for users and key stakeholders (changing and improving).

Desirable Skills:

– A coaching qualification or equivalent experience of coaching senior team members.
– Strong agile product and project management skills.
