Service Designer

The role

This role will provide the drive and focus for the business development ambitions of the Charity that will be delivered through our new Business Development Team. The Team will lead of the new business acquisition and service development from opportunity identifications, bid writing and submission through to innovative service design.

You will work agiley across these activities and lead on the design and development of innovative new service offers. Your prime focus will be the design of services and solutions that meet the needs of existing and new partners, as well as being sustainable and giving partners and customers clear reasons to choose St Andrew’s as the preferred provider of services that add real value and innovation.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Leading the co-creation and co-design of new services and value propositions in collaboration with stakeholders including patients, service users, families, carers, commissioners and clinicians
• Managing a portfolio of business opportunities focussing on the longer term development of service innovations
• Using research, insights and knowledge to create new innovative solutions
• Using Design Thinking models and approaches and other techniques to facilitate rapid development from identifying service need to designing outline solutions
• Delivering required feasibility studies and initial and full business cases to enable the required strategic and financial investment decisions
• Working closely with the Business Development Officers to identify opportunities through monitoring of procurement portals, defining and identifying unmet service needs and analysing customer and market intelligence.
• Building strong and productive relationships with internal colleagues from clinical areas, Research and Innovation and support functions to meet our service design and development requirements
• Supporting the Charity to develop co-designed user-centred services that inspire people and meet service needs
• Establish best practice methods and approached that embed our values and principles and meet regulatory and legal standards

About you

We’re looking for experienced professionals with experience of service and solution design, innovation and development, ideally in a health or social care environment. You will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of Design Thinking approaches and experience of using them to establish successful products or services. You will have experience of developing solutions in response to to published tenders. You will also have strong commercial skills including the preparation of business cases, the understanding of key financial approaches and the ability to give strategic context to financial decision making.

You will have both the breadth and depth of skills to fulfil the role described above and high levels of resilience to lead and embed service delivery. You will have a strong track record of challenging the status quo and improving patient care or the experience of a product or service’s end users. You will also have extensive experience of innovation, and the communication, negotiation and influencing skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
