Salary range: £46,293 – £64,656 per annum

Work location: 64 Victoria Street, London, SW1E 6QP

Hours per week: 36

Contract type: Temporary for 18 months

Closing date: 9 July 2020

About Us:

Home to the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and Oxford Street, Westminster is a city that offers so much. And while it is understandably a world-famous tourist destination, Westminster is also home to a vast multicultural population – a population that deserves a great quality of life. At the City Council, we work innovatively and collaboratively to ensure that the area is meeting the needs of everyone, and that is a true City for All. In order to achieve this ambition, we must be able to effectively engage with our population and understand what they want from their services, and with you in our forward-thinking team, we will be one step closer to achieving that ambition.

The Role:

In these three newly-created roles within the Customer Experience and Digital Programme, you will help us make Westminster the most technologically advanced city in the world, with the most intelligent use of information and data. With the overall aim of improving the experience of customers, you will use your passion for responsive web and mobile to shape insight-led designs and design concepts. With all decisions being based in evidence, you will take responsibility for user research and testing, seeing to it that user needs are being understood and translated into the best services. Conducting user research surveys and interviews, you will ensure the needs of all stakeholders are being captured and addressed. Building both low and hi-fidelity prototypes, this is a highly varied role that will put you at the epicentre of the most interesting challenges.

About You:

Leading a team of three, you will be expected to share your experience and knowledge across the organisation. As such, you will need comprehensive people management and leadership skills, underpinned by a can-do attitude with the willingness to take on new projects. As an experienced UX Designer who can work in an agile way and use agile tools, it would be helpful if you have previously worked in central government, though comprehensive skills in sketching and prototyping, A/B testing and workshop facilitation are more important. Fluent in shaping designs and interfaces that work across multiple channels, devices, browsers and platforms, you will have a good understanding of the web development process and you will be capable of analysing the customer journey through heatmapping and session recording. You will have excellent communication skills, and you won’t be phased by juggling multiple projects. Crucially, you will be comfortable synthesising multiple inputs such as reporting data, metrics, and qualitative and quantitative insights to shape the most visionary recommendations.

The Council and its partners are committed to achieving diverse shortlists for all vacancies at Band 4 or above to support our desire to increase the number of staff from underrepresented groups in our workforce. If you are from a black, Asian and minority ethnic background (BAME), we invite you to self-declare this to the hiring manager as part of our positive action commitments.

As a progressive and innovative organisation, we welcome applications from candidates keen on working in an agile environment with flexible conditions.

What We Offer:

This is a fascinating role that will provide you with the career defining opportunity to engage with senior internal stakeholders, external partners, agencies and Members. The pace of work is fast, and with the chance to explore the most cutting-edge approaches, there is real scope to push the boundaries of your knowledge. As such, we can offer a truly stimulating working environment that is further enhanced by progressive training and development opportunities. And while job satisfaction is undeniably important, so too is your wellbeing. As such, you will find a highly inclusive environment in which every member of the team is encouraged to be true to themselves – resulting in a fun and friendly workplace. Further enhanced by a competitive benefits package that includes multiple staff discounts and generous annual leave, we are confident that you will excel in our team.
