A government-wide effort is underway to redesign their digital channels to deliver a simple and seamless customer experience on par with leading consumer experiences. We are helping federal agencies improve the design of their digital experiences and services so that they focus more on the public’s needs and priorities, and we need someone with exceptional Service Design skills to help us accomplish this mission.

Overall Job Duties

To start out, this role will mostly be working on a high-profile, public-facing project. The Service Designer will be a key member of a team consisting of a Customer Experience Lead, Lead UX Designer and Design Strategist, supporting a Federal agency, as well as other clients. The candidate will work with a web development team as well, using an Agile approach. The candidate will be responsible for designing end-to-end service experiences across all customer touchpoints. The candidate will also collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, user experience designers, engineers, and business stakeholders, to create seamless and customer-centric service solutions. The work will focus on understanding user needs, identifying pain points, and crafting user-centered service experiences that align with our customer’s strategic goals.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth research to gain insights into user behaviors, needs, and pain points in order to inform service design decisions
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and align service design efforts with organizational goals
• Develop customer journey maps, service blueprints, and other relevant artifacts to visualize and communicate service concepts and experiences
• Lead workshops, design sprints, and other collaborative sessions to ideate and prototype service concepts and improvements
• Design and iterate service processes, considering both online and offline touchpoints to create a seamless end-to-end experience
• Work closely with user experience designers to ensure consistency in the overall user experience, from digital interfaces to physical interactions
• Conduct usability testing and gather user feedback to validate service design concepts and iterate on improvements
• Assist with other work as needed 

Requirements

• A portfolio or work sample demonstrating your Service Design skills
• 4+ years experience in Service Design 
• Proficiency in service design tools, such as journey mapping software, service blueprinting tools, and prototyping platforms
• Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively to solve complex challenges
• Effective communication and presentation skills to articulate design concepts and ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
• Knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology 
• Experience using prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, etc.) 
• Working knowledge of user-centered design principles and practices 
• Prior experience working with the federal government is a plus 
• Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Flexibility in the face of shifting client priorities and requirements
