Service Designer

Rebellion Defense

Rebellion Defense

Service designers are integral to the design process at Rebellion, facilitating research activities throughout the product lifecycle and synthesizing outputs so that the entire team learns from them.

This role is based out of our Washington, D.C. or Seattle offices and will support Rebellion’s autonomy product line. You will research new models for Trusted AI, transform the way the military identifies threats, and create new patterns for human-machine-teaming. You’ll work closely with Rebellion’s product and engineering teams to understand new technology and design ways that we can provide our users frictionless access to it. A job well done means our users across the Department of Defense have the information they need at their fingertips; they will be freed from manual processes and able to focus on decision-making and achieving mission goals.

The ideal candidate is comfortable managing and executing the end-to-end service design process including user research, facilitation, process & journey mapping, concept generation, storyboarding, and even some prototyping. They are passionate about using emerging technologies to solve problems and interested in learning more about Artificial Intelligence. The strongest candidates are experts in systems thinking and deeply passionate about understanding human behavior. Expect to drive and coordinate the service design process for your products and gain consensus across Rebellion’s internal stakeholders (Product Management, Engineering, Design, Customer Success, etc).

What your mission is:

  • Conduct user research, facilitation, and co-creation sessions that engage stakeholders and users in the design process.
  • Create design assets that communicate research effectively and equip the whole team with a deep understanding of our customers and end-users.
  • Prioritize the highest-impact design directions to achieve key outcomes for our customers
  • Adjust and change quickly if needed, due to a shift in direction or new user insights.

You may be fit for this role if your expertise aligns to:

  • Care deeply about empowering users.
  • Want to be part of an incredibly kind, passionate and capable team of engineers, designers and product managers who are motivated by mission-oriented work.
  • Are excited to help establish the design culture and practices of a start-up
  • Are eager to learn about capabilities and struggles of the defense and national security industry.
  • Believe that exposing and adapting the design process for multi-disciplinary collaboration leads to better products and experiences.

The Nature of our Work:

We are driving fast change to an extremely regulated industry. Many of the national security programs that are supported by Rebellion’s products operate in secure environments and access to those spaces and the data in them may require an active personnel security clearance. It is a requirement of this position that you hold a personnel security clearance at the Secret level.
