This position is a problem framer, solver, and facilitator who uses a strategic perspective to shape people-first solutions to market. By keeping the core problem to solve at the heart of the work and supporting cross-functional teams bridging the gap from idea to realization, the Sr Service Designer ensures the intent of the product is effectively realized in market. This role is a combination of do-er and strategic thought partner that uses both the traditional skills of a project manager and the structured process skills of a designer.

Job Description

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Brings conceptual aspects of the vision to life through tangible, functional, and visual outcomes that include products, services, and messages that embody Thrivent’s values within financial services.
  • Prototypes, tests, and refines key service experience components with participation of end users–iteratively guiding designs from low to high fidelity solutions that elegantly solve for complex behavioral, cultural, and social dimensions.
  • Continually focuses the working team on the core opportunity / problem to solve in pursuit of the organizational vision, which may require clarifying and reframing the challenge at times.
  • Identifies specific requirements for making a desired offering or experience more desirable, feasible, viable, just, sustainable, and inclusive.
  • Uses design to enable team members across disciplines to work together in shared pursuit of the visionary intent.
  • Engages cross-functional teams to define specific actions, internal and external, required to make the organization’s vision real.
  • Facilitates the process that aligns all stakeholder points of view into a cohesive strategy and workable roadmap.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:  

 Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a design / design-driven innovation role.
  • Deep knowledge of human-centered design and a relevant service design field (systems design, business design, industrial design, graphic design, interaction design).
  • Track record of successful concept development, including prototyping and/or launching solutions into market.
  • Ability to work within a self-directed culture and navigate moments of ambiguity within the design process.

Preferred: 

  • Master’s degree in related design field (industrial design, graphic/communications design, systems design, service design, interaction design).
  • Experience and knowledge working in financial services, mainly insurance.
  • Work experience in human-centered design in large organizations.
  • Competency in adjacent spaces of technology and/or business.
