The role in a nutshell

As a Senior Service Designer at Kin + Carta you will be part of the team working on products and services for some of the world’s most influential organisations. Our designers and creatives work in dedicated multidisciplinary project teams so anyone who has worked at a startup or in a product company will feel right at home. We are involved from planning through to execution and are committed to being an advocate for the user at every step of the way. You’ll help the project team to make informed design decisions, placing the needs of the user at the centre of every piece of work whilst balancing the needs of the business.

What you can expect

  • Understand service design theory and know how to apply it
  • You will be responsible for breaking down complex problems into structured components and visualising them clearly
  • Planning and executing system mapping, customer journeys, scenarios and service specifications
  • Leading the design and implementation of services, including the orchestration of a variety of different physical and digital touch points
  • Contributing to research activities, and leading research efforts when needed
  • Zooming out to ensure that we view experiences holistically
  • Leading on  requirements gathering and prioritisation sessions
  • Defining and creating impactful value propositions
  • Planning, designing and facilitating workshops and always following up by synthesising and communicating the outputs of the workshops
  • Creating service experience concepts and prototypes
  • Clearly storyboarding service experiences
  • Creating and guiding others in producing service design deliverables, such as user archetypes, jobs to be done, service blueprints and other experience maps, KPI/KEI models, roadmaps, among others.
  • Leading engagements by providing the client and team with direction, guidance, and support
  • Being collaborative and ego-free with the ability to give and receive feedback to and from all team members regardless of their role or level.
  • Designing, prototyping and building products used by people every day.
  • Demonstrating confidence when using Sketch or Figma, Google Suite, Adobe CC suite and a variety of prototyping tools or happy to learn the ones they don’t know.
  • Client-facing, taking an active role in the presentation of the team’s latest design work
  • Enthusiastic and comfortable operating  in an agile way

The type of person we’d love to meet

We are looking for Service Designers who have a deep understanding of service design theory and methods, and can autonomously apply and share that knowledge with confidence. You’ll be ambitious and passionate about Service Design and have a good overall understanding of service delivery. As an advocate of Service Design, you’ll be a passionate champion of service design practices within the design team and wider Kin + Carta. You will be a trusted member of the project team and a point of contact for the client, you’ll thrive when working outside your comfort zone and you’ll collaborate well within cross-functional teams. Some of the essential skills we are looking for are:

  • You are a great communicator and storyteller.
  • You enjoy and thrive working in a collaborative, multi disciplinary team.
  • You respond well to change and  in an innovative environment.
  • You’re passionate about your craft and you’re eager to help progress other designers’ careers.
  • We are ideally looking for somebody who, although now Service Design is their specialism, perhaps comes from a UX background
  • You are somebody who is comfortable consulting on projects with a lot of ambiguity
  • Confident working closely with external clients
