We’re growing and are looking for a Senior Service Designer to join our Platforms directorate:

NHS Digital’s Platforms Directorate is at the heart of designing the core infrastructure that connects the thousands of digital service providers across the UK’s health and care system. This role provides an exciting opportunity to support our vision to deliver a user-centred modern platform approach to our products and services.

We are looking for Senior Service Designers, to bring an inclusive, user-centred approach to the delivery of national services in health and care. You will join an active and supportive design community and collaborate across professions and organisations, to ensure new and existing services provide outstanding experiences and work for the whole population. You will have the opportunity to analyse and rethink the delivery of health and care services and improve delivery at national scale.

As a Senior Service Designer you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the design work for new products and services and enable improvements to existing ones
  • Developing designs to meet proven user needs and achieve agreed outcomes
  • Interpreting evidence-based research and incorporating this into your work
  • Supporting the values and standards of inclusive and accessible design
  • Communicating ideas clearly and simply
  • Working in cross disciplinary teams, leading on workshops with the team, users and stakeholders
  • Influencing colleagues and senior stakeholders, with clear rationale for your design decisions
  • Reviewing the work of others constructively

About you.

Some of the key skills and experience you’ll bring:

  • Industry experience of applying design knowledge to service design including mapping, user needs analysis etc.
  • Experience of working as a designer supporting several cross-disciplinary product teams at the same time
  • Industry experience of applying design knowledge in service design
  • Experience of using user-centred design practices for real life situations and applications
  • Ability to create concepts and maps to support design and redesign of services
  • Significant experience in a designer role, equivalent to Master’s level or similar qualification
  • Experience or qualifications demonstrating skills in design applications
